Farmers’ group requests probe for DA officials

Farmers’ group Unigrow Philippines requested lawmakers investigate the regional offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) after the officials ignored their request to speak with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. about the promised P20 per kilo of rice.

Unigrow Philippines President Jimmy Vistar said in an interview with DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan that they have sent a letter to the Office of the President, saying that it is possible—not a theory—to sell rice at P20 per kilo.

"Puro lang sila mga data. Tumatanggap lang sila ng mga report galing sa field na hindi naman nila tintingnan kung tama ba o hindi," he said during the interview.

"Hindi kasi sila umaapak sa baba. Nasa taas lang sila. Kaya hindi nila alam kung ano ang mga nangyayari sa baba," Vistar added, pointing out that the DA officials should learn the truth to find a solution to the problem.

However, they were ignored by the DA officials, as Vistar specified that these officials were the problem.

"Ang problema, tatlong beses akong sumulat sa Malacañang. Ang sulat ko sa Presidente, wala akong binanggit na bumili. Ang sabi ko, sa problemang P20 solusyunan natin. Tulungan ka namin," he explained.

Vistar mentioned that they were asking for a chance to speak up and provide suggestions.

"Ang problema, binalewala tayo. Sinagot tayo ng palagbag," Vistar confirmed.

He challenged the DA officials to not just stay in their offices but check on the field to know the situation.
