Rains are anticipated in various parts of the country during the first few days of 2025 due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), shearline, and northeast monsoon (Amihan), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In a weather update during Dos Por Dos on Thursday, PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres reported that Visayas, Mindanao, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate will continue to experience rains due to the ITCZ.
Moreover, the shearline also brings rainfall to the rest of the Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Isabela, Quirino, and parts of the Cagayan Valley.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is causing rain in the Cordillera Administrative Region, the remaining parts of the Cagayan Valley, and Ilocos Norte.
Localized thunderstorms and light rains are expected in the rest of the country.
As of now, no low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), said Torres.
According to PAGASA climatologists, there is a 10% chance of a tropical cyclone developing or entering PAR this January.
The first typhoon to enter the country in 2025 will be named Auring.
