Former President Rodrigo Duterte hinted at a possible bid for the mayoralty in Davao City, potentially teaming up with his son, Sebastian Duterte, as his running mate in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
This decision might reflect his concerns about running a national campaign due to his age, as the demands of such a campaign could take a toll on his health, amid suggestions that he seek a Senate seat.
"You think that I can carry a national campaign at my age, or you want me to die?" Duterte said during a press conference on Saturday.
"Magco-collapse lang ako niyan," he added.
He stated that it seems he can no longer handle the demands of campaigning and the frequent trips between Manila and Davao.
Duterte further indicated that the incumbent mayor of Davao City, Baste Duterte, may be pursuing the vice mayoral position in the upcoming elections.
Previously, supporters supporters alluded to Duterte's Senate candidacy, referencing his high survey ratings as evidence.
