Former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Martin 'Bobot' Diño has passed away, his family confirmed on Tuesday, August 8.

In a statement posted on Facebook, his daughter former Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra confirmed that her father died at 2:15 AM.

Liza earlier said that Martin had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

“Martin Diño was not only a dedicated public servant but also a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. His unwavering commitment to his responsibilities, his tireless work ethic, and his passion for service defined his life's journey,” she said.

Liza said that his father’s "legacy extends beyond his distinguished role in government". She mentioned that Martin used his voice to fight for the rights of the oppressed and fight injustices when he served as the chairman of the Violence Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

On behalf of her family, Liza extended her heartfelt gratitude to the people who have offered their prayers for her father.

“His legacy of resilience, compassion, and a deep sense of duty will forever guide us,” she furthered.

Martin served as the DILG Undersecretary during the administration of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Before his appointment in DILG, he served as the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairperson.

He also ran in the presidential race in the May 2016 election under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), but later withrew.
