President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. urged the public on Friday to report to authorities vendors and retailers selling rice above the price ceiling.
In an interview in Palawan, Marcos encouraged the public to report to the Department of Agriculture (DA) retailers selling above the approved price ceiling.
"I would encourage anyone who finds that someone or retailer is selling at above the price ceiling, i-report po ninyo. I-report po ninyo sa pulis, i-report po ninyo sa DA (Department of Agriculture) doon sa lugar ninyo, i-report ninyo sa local government para matingnan po namin," the President said.
According to Executive Order No. 39, the mandated price ceiling for regular milled rice is P41 per kilo, while the mandated price cap for well-milled rice is P45 per kilo.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) suggested the aforementioned price cap since market retail prices for rice have increased despite a steady and ample supply.
The DTI and DA are directed to ensure that mandated price ceilings are being implemented in local markets pursuant to Sections 10(9) and (15) of Republic Act No. 7581, or the Price Act.
