The entire Special Operations Unit of the Eastern Police District (EPD-DSOU)was relieved following an alleged irregular operation targeting a Chinese family in an exclusive subdivision in Las Piñas City.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, it was noted that during an interview at Camp Crame, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief PMGen. Anthony Aberin confirmed that 31 members of the EPD-DSOU were relieved of their duties.
This comes amid an investigation into the alleged theft of ₱85 million in cash and valuables by some of their personnel from the victims.
It was noted that eight out of the 31 personnel from the unit served a search warrant at the residence of the foreign nationals on April 2, despite not having approval from their superiors.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, EPD Director PBGen. Villamor Tuliao confirmed to DZRH that the eight personnel have been placed under restrictive custody and have been disarmed.
"Para malinawan natin kung ano talaga ang nangyari at magkaroon tayo ng impartial investigation at malaman talaga natin what really happened sa insidente na ito," said Tuliao.
The Chinese victims' camp also addressed reporters, recounting their experience of alleged harassment by the EPD police officers.
Alias Kitty revealed that the police officers emptied their safe box, taking cash and jewelry, even though the warrant was not under their name.
Furthermore, Alias CK shared that the police attempted to extort from them after taking their sibling to the station in Pasig City, but they were later turned over to the Las Piñas PNP when they couldn’t provide anything to the suspects.
Tuliao earlier noted that, aside from the lack of coordination and approval, it was also reported that the police officers failed to wear body cameras when executing the search warrant.
