MANILA, Philippines - The Embassy of Malaysia in the Philippines announced a golf tournament, with the aim of raising funds intended for two schools in Pampanga and one in Bulacan, through the Maybank-Malaysia Friendship Open 2024 on 12 October 2024 at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga.

The tournament is jointly organized by the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila and the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries Philippines, Inc. (MCCI), a non-profit organization and the first ASEAN member to have a business chamber in the Philippines, the Embassy of Malaysia shared during a press conference last Wednesday (Oct. 9).

The press conference was attended by key leaders, including Mr. Edward Ling, Chairman of the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries Philippines, Inc. (MCCI); Mr. Stephen Khaw, MCCI Deputy Chairman & MYFG Chairman; His Excellency Ambassador Dato' Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Philippines; Mr. Patrick Dennis L. Solosa, OIC-President & CEO of Maybank Philippines; and Ms. Edelyn Castro, Head of Corporate Affairs of Maybank Philippines.

The golf tournament is also in line with celebrations for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, aimed at “strengthening collaborative relationships, revitalizing connections, and promoting a positive environment among stakeholders from both nations,” the Embassy said.

“The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila sincerely hopes that this tournament will become an effective platform for linking Filipino and Malaysian businesses as well as the international community, paving the way for enhanced cooperation across various sectors, and cultivating lasting relationships that will benefit both Malaysia and the Philippines,” the Embassy stated.

Proceeds from the tournament will be dedicated to supporting various charitable causes, including the Prado Siongco Elementary and Prado Siongco High School in Pampanga, the Embassy added.
