In a supposed charity boxing game between Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III today, July 27, Duterte failed to appear and ended Torre to win by default.
To oppose the event, Duterte clarified that he never officially challenged Torre to a fight.
“‘Di naman kita hinamon, sinabi ko talaga pag nagsuntukan tayo, mabubugbog kita. Hindi kita hinamon, tanga” Duterte stated in a pre-recorded episode of his online show.
He added that he was not available on Sunday due to other obligations and instead suggested a possible rescheduling to a weekday.
“I cannot be there on Sunday, I have other things to do. Tuesday, Wednesday, or any other day, I think mas okay sayo kasi mas may oras ka pa mag ensayo,” he added, while the Vice Mayor is seen catching a flight yesterday going to Singapore.
Despite the no-show of Duterte, Torre still pushed through to the ring as scheduled, but after the 10-count with Duterte’s absence, he was declared the winner by default.
Even without Duterte’s participation, the event raised ₱16.3 million in cash, with various sponsors contributing in-kind donations that will be given to those affected by the recent southwest monsoon and other weather disturbances.
