EDSA 'full rehabilitation' plan suspended for Holy Week – DPWH
by Luwela Amor14 April 2025

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) postponed the plan of ‘full rehabilitation’ road works along the entire stretch of EDSA this Holy Week, despite the expected renovation this April.

In the report by RH 5 Val Gonzales, DPWH NCR Director Lorie Malaluan said the postponement resulted from a series of coordination meetings among various government agencies and stakeholders.

Malaluan added that the primary reason for the rehabilitation suspension is to reduce the impact it will cause on traffic flow.

The agency also cited preparations for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting as a contributing factor in the decision to delay the project.

While no final start date has been announced, the DPWH said the rehabilitation is expected to begin after the May 2025 elections.

This marks the second time that the rehabilitation project has been postponed.

Director Malaluan emphasized that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wanted the project to proceed smoothly once officially launched, with no more delays or changes.

The rehabilitation effort is a joint initiative of the DPWH in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), aims to ease traffic flow and ensure faster travel for commuters.

Meanwhile, for now, motorists and commuters can expect no construction-related disruptions along EDSA during the Holy Week.
