The Department of Health (DOH) urged the public to be cautious of misleading Facebook posts circulating online about a supposed lockdown allegedly due to monkeypox (Mpox).
In an advisory released on Saturday, the Department of Health clarified that there is no need for a lockdown due to monkeypox (Mpox), as the disease is not airborne.
“Nagpapaalala ang (DOH) na huwag paniwalaan ang mga kumakalat na pekeng Facbook post na may mapanlinlang na marketing strategy, pekeng endorsement mula sa mga eksperto, at hindi makatotohanang mga pahayag tungkol sa kalusugan,” the advisory read.
The DOH also urged the public to rely only on the agency’s official Facebook page — https://www.facebook.com/DOHgovPH — for accurate and reliable health information.
Moreover, the agency noted that it has already reported the said Facebook page to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for proper action and removal.
The DOH also assured that it is working closely with Local Government Units (LGUs) to ensure proper medical care for individuals with confirmed or suspected monkeypox (mpox) cases.
Ultimately, the health department clarified that no cases of Mpox Clade I-b have been detected in the country.
So far, only Clade II has been reported, which has a lower mortality rate of about 1 in 10, compared to the 4 to 5 in 10 mortality rate of Clade I-b.
“Mas marami pang Mpox nung 2024. Mas marami ring naitala nung Abril kaysa ngayong Mayo 2025. Nagkataon lamang na nagheheadline dahil aktibo at nagaanunsyo na ngayon ang mga LGU,” the advisory further read.
