The Department of Health (DOH) on Maundy Thursday reminded Filipino Catholics to "avoid acts or rites that lead to physical wounds and injuries" as they commemorate Holy Week this year.
“We join the pastoral guidance of our faith leaders, guiding all towards religious practices that are safe and healthy," the department said in a statement.
Should an individual still choose to participate in rites that may cause injuries, such as self-flagellation or even crucifixion, the DOH advised them to ensure they are vaccinated with the anti-tetanus vaccine.
