The temporary deployment ban for first-time overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound for Kuwait will be lifted, according to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

In his arrival speech in Pasay on Saturday, Oct. 21, Marcos mentioned that he and Kuwaiti Prince Sheikh Meshal discussed the ban during their meeting on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations - Gulf Cooperation Council (ASEAN-GCC) Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“At the very quick, very short meeting, we agreed to continue some of the obstacles in our relationship in terms of the bans that we imposed for employment. He was effusive in saying that we should remove all of those and we should continue as we have done before,” he said.

The President regarded the planned lifting of bans as a "very important development."

“That will end and we will now return to a normal state of affairs with the Kuwait government,” Marcos added.

According to the chief executive, the lifting are presently being discussed at Kuwait's "ministerial level and the Ambassadorial as well."

In February this year, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced the temporarily deferment of deployment of first-time OFWs to Kuwait following reported violence and deaths.

Shortly after, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that Kuwait halted the issuance of new entry visas for Filipinos.
