Companies that pass the environmental compliance review may be allowed to engage in reclamation activities in Manila Bay during the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change hearing, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

DENR Secretary Toni Yulo Loyzaga said that the environmental compliance of the companies involved in the reclamation project is now undergoing a thorough and serious review by the agency, and the DENR’s cumulative impact assessment may take one year.

Loyzaaga made the remark in response to Senator Cynthia Villar’s question on how long the companies will wait before the suspension of the reclamation activities is lifted.

It can be recalled that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has halted the reclamation works in Manila Bay to make sure and inspect well if these companies are following the environmental compliance laws.
