Former Senator Leila de Lima was designated as the spokesperson of the Liberal Party (LP), LP President and Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman announced on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

In a press release posted on his official Facebook page, Lagman said the appointment of de Lima was agreed during the LP's ManCom meeting held last Monday, Dec. 4.

"De Lima, who has been a long-standing member of the Liberal Party, committed to resume her active role in advocating and enhancing the Party’s advocacy on good governance, social justice and liberalism," he said.

"She has not revealed, however, her future political plans pending thorough consultation with allies and kin," Lagman added.

Prior to her appointment, De Lima served as LP's Vice President for Policy, Platform, and Advocacy.

In a brief press statement, de Lima said she was "honored and grateful" to be appointed in the position.

"Together with the dedicated leadership of Cong. Edcel Lagman as President & Sen. Kiko Pangilinan as Chairman, I hope to convey our Party's message of reforms and advocacy on good governance, social justice and civil liberties," she said.

The former Senator looks forward to conveying LP's "message of reforms and advocacy on good governance, social justice and civil liberties."

On Nov. 13, De Lima was released from police custody after Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 206 granted the bail petition in her last illegal drug case.

She gained provisional freedom after almost seven years in detention.
