Energy Secretary and PDP-Laban president Alfonso Cusi on Wednesday said that the party respects and supports the decision of Senator Christopher "Bong" Go to withdraw from the presidential race, but said they are still hoping for a change of mind.
"I believe the good senator has made his decision at kami sa partido respect it and support his decision. Baka nga hindi yun ang panahon niya ngayon, baka sa susunod," he told DZRH in an interview.
(I believe the good senator has made his decision at the party respects and supports his decision. Maybe this is not really his time, so maybe next time.)
He said that Go's decision shows his kindness as he does not want the president to have further problems.
Despite this, Cusi said that the party is lamenting his decision and is hoping that he would change his mind before he formally files his withdrawal to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
"Nagluluksa ang PDP dahil pagka-declare na nag-withdraw na siya sa pagtakbo sa pagkapangulo," Cusi said.
(PDP is in sorrow because of his declaration to withdraw from the presidency.)
"Ang ating mga kasama sa PDP umaasa pa rin, hindi pa naman daw na-file sa Comelec, baka magbago ang isipan ng ating mabuting senador para tumakbo sa pagkapangulo," he added.
(Our members in PDP are still hoping since he has yet to file his withdrawal to Comelec. Maybe the good senator’s mind could still change on his presidential bid.)
Go announced on Tuesday that he is pulling out of the presidential race, citing pressure from his family and not wanting to cause more problems for President Rodrigo Duterte.
