The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) faction, headed by Department of Energy (DOE) Sec. Alfonso Cusi, remains determined to endorse Sen. Christopher 'Bong' Go as the Presidential candidate of the party for the 2022 elections.
"The NEC (National Executive Committee) understands your position. Nevertheless, we are determined to endorse you as PDP Laban candidate for President of the Philippines in the coming National Elections," Cusi said in a letter addressed to Go.
Cusi said that the traits shared by Go with President Rodrigo Duterte make the senator 'the logical successor' to be the next President of the Philippines.
"We trust and believe in your leadership qualities - which, among others, are: humility, sincerity, strong political will, honesty, good sense of justic, and innate goodness and goodwill towards your fellowmen, as exemplified by your Malasakit Centers," Cusi said.
In an earlier letter, Go declined the endorsement of the PDP-Laban wing led by Cusi to run for the presidency in 2022 polls, and stressed that he has no interest for the position.
However, Cusi hopes that Go will reconsider his decision since the group believes that he is the best candidate to run in tandem with President Duterte, who has announced that he will run for vice-president in the next elections.
Cusi called Go and President Duterte as the best pair to lead the Philippines forward.
"Your track record of service, done quietly and without much fanfare, speak for itself," the DOE chief said.
"We admire your humility, most of all. While some are gloating over their supposed achievements and boasting about their purported qualification so they may become President, you on the other hand refuse the opportunity to become one," he added.
The PDP-Laban has been divided into two factions with one group headed by Cusi while senators Manny Pacquiao and Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III lead the other.
