According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, the operation, conducted on August 23, 2024, led to the arrest of 19 individuals allegedly involved in the scam, including a vlogger couple whose names were withheld by authorities.
PNP-ACG Director PMGen. Ronnie Francis Cariaga noted that the raid was carried out in coordination with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas under a warrant to search, seize, and examine computer data.
Authorities confiscated various items from the suspects, including SIM cards, mobile devices, laptops, bank documents, and scripts used to deceive victims. The modus operandi involved impersonating bank representatives and convincing victims to update their credit information, allowing the scammers to extract sensitive personal details.
In an interview with DZRH News, PNP-ACG spokesperson PLt. Wallen Arancillo revealed that the syndicate had been operating for 11 years. However, many of those recently arrested were new recruits who were allegedly unaware that they had joined a fraudulent operation.
