A couple and their two children died in a fire that broke out in their home at Bernabe Compound, Brgy. Pulang Lupa Uno, Las Piñas City, early Monday morning, April 7.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the father was 38 years old, the mother was 35, while their children were aged 3 and 17, RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort reported.
The father’s body was found near the kitchen. Authorities believe he attempted to reach his wife and children who were sleeping on the third floor, but the mezzanine collapsed before he could get to them.
The victim’s sibling said there were five people inside the house when the fire broke out at around 1 a.m., including their 62-year-old mother who was the first to be rescued.
He said his brother was outside when the fire started but ran back inside to try and save his family. Unfortunately, he was unable to make it out.
The sibling added that three families lived in the house, but it just so happened that their sister’s family, who usually stayed there, spent the night at their other home in Cavite. That family of three was unharmed.
The fire was raised to first alarm and was declared out at 2:37 a.m.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
No other houses were affected by the fire.
