The father of the 12-year-old boy might face administrative and criminal charges following the death of his son, who accidentally shot himself while playing with the PNP-issued service gun inside his school premises in San Juan Del Monte in Bulacan.

In an interview, Lieutenant Colonel Rannie Lamuctod, police chief of San Jose Del Monte (SJDM) in Bulacan, said they have yet to speak to the father of the Grade 6 student, who is a policeman assigned to Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Lamuctod said they will give the family time to grieve before launching an investigation into the incident.

"We respect that they (family) are in distress," he said.

According to Lamuctod, the child was 'fascinated' by guns as he was a frequent player of online games Counter-Strike and Mobile Legends. He added that maybe the child wanted to see how it felt to shoot with a real gun.

An initial report from the police said the student managed to bring his father's Baretta service firearm to the Benito Nieto Elementary School in Barangay Muzon without his parents noticing it.

At around 5:40 AM, the student arrived at his school and went inside the comfort room to play with the gun. And while he is playing, a bullet then burst from the service firearm and hit his chin.

Authorities said that after hearing the gunshot and finding the wounded student, teachers rushed the victim to Kairos Hospital before he was eventually transferred to Skyline Hospital for further medical intervention.
