The Malacañan palace has approved the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to suspend the classes in public schools and work in government offices across Metro Manila on Wednesday, August 28.
"RECOMMENDATION APPROVED BY ORDER OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY," the Presidential Communications Office announced through Facebook.
"Classes in public schools and work in government agencies within the National Capital Region (NCR) are suspended effective 7:00 AM on August 28, 2024, due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon," the statement added.
The NDRRMC recommended the suspension "to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the safety of the general public."
Meanwhile, private companies, schools, and offices have the discretion to decide on their operations.
Agencies involved in emergency services are excluded from the suspension.
