Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. ordered the persons of deprived liberty (PDLs) in the new Bilibid Prison to surrender all contraband until Sunday.
In a statement, Catapang appealed to the other groups inside the penitentiary to cooperate with the BuCor to surrender their contrabands, leaving an ultimatum to implement daily search operations after seizing hand grenades, 18 dozens of ice picks, improvised firearms, metal pipes, short-bladed weapons, grinders with six discs, and an improvised long-bladed weapon.
The BuCor chief also told them that the bureau will not waver until they find those contrabands and mentioned that those PDLs who will cooperate with the prison reform agenda will get an assurance to get out of jails after they complete their minimum sentence.
He added that the ones who will be caught red-handed with the contraband right after the ultimatum will be staying longer.
According to Catapang, they will conduct a thorough investigation of how the PDLs were able to hide the items so they can make adjustments in their current security inspection facility.
