Veteran actress Carmi Martin is seeking justice for the dogs who died under the care of a training facility on May 12.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the actress clarified that the photo of the dogs posted on her timeline is not hers. She explained the reason she posted it on her timeline was because she wanted to “speak up for those who can’t.”
“I’m sharing this to help seek justice for what happened to them. As a dog lover myself and a fur mom to three adorable Abebes, I can’t even imagine how I would react if something like this happened to them. Let’s speak up for those who can’t,” her caption read.
In a now-viral social media post, one of the dogs' owners, Sandy, aired out her frustrations and detailed the incident. According to her, on May 12, her beloved poodle died under the care of Alvin Labarias, or “Winsol,” from Win Solution Dog Training Services.
Seven dogs were enrolled at the training facility for obedience training, highlighting that two of them were hers, while five were her sister’s.
At around 2:30 PM on Saturday, Sandy mentioned that guards from their village called her to ask if Winsol could talk to them. She stated that the latter explained that their dog, Donki, had been dead since May 12, along with one of her sister’s dogs, Guanciale.
“He claimed that both died from heat stroke. And that they buried them right away without even telling us - without our consent. My husband and I were both in shock upon hearing all of this,” she wrote.
She added that her sister and her husband were on speaker phone at the time, and had the same reactions. She added that the couple also had only found out about their dog’s death at the time.
“We took matters upon ourselves and found out that our dead dogs looked like they were killed and battered because photos of them showed blood on their heads. One of them didn’t even have a head anymore. And I found out that our beloved dog was put in a sack without proper burial,” she emphasized.
“Mr Labarias even had the audacity to offer “compensation” by giving us a new dog,” she added.
Sandy pointed out that what happened to their dogs was a result of animal abuse and cruelty. She also hoped that the training facility would not be allowed to continue operating.
“They don’t care about our dogs they only care about making money. They need to close down. Please help us spread this news,” she ended.
In a separate post, Sandy’s sister, Karla, echoed the statement, adding that two of their dogs died in “horrific conditions.”
In an update, she said that five of their dogs were returned and had lost so much weight.
Labarias has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
