The death toll from Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon has spiked to 34, according to data from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a press briefing at Camp Crame, the PNP Spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo said that 11 of the said deaths were casualties within Metro Manila. The data was based on the response operations conducted by PNP following the typhoon’s aftermath.
According to their collected data, 22 individuals died due to drowning; six were buried on the ground, five were electrocuted, and one was weighed down by a tree that collapsed.
While operations are ongoing in the National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and Bicol Region, 18 people were injured, while six are still missing.
Fajardo also clarified that the number of recorded deaths has yet to be validated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as they have only verified the 14 death toll.
