A 62-year-old Canadian was found dead at 5 a.m. Monday, July 3, at the port in Barangay Sto. Niño, Naval town, Biliran province, suffered a stroke during a drinking binge, according to Dr. Ralph D. Bueno, a physician.
The authority identified the foreigner as William Ronald Haynes, who was staying at the Benjamin Hotel in Naval with his live-in partner, Elma Siat.
According to Siat, they argued in their room in a hotel in Naval the night before he died because he was drunk.
Jusrel Espina, who is a witness residing near the scene of the incident, told the police that he saw Haynes at about 10 p.m. carrying a bottle of liquor and sitting on a concrete seawall at the pier in the village.
An hour later, he noticed that the victim was already lying down and seemed to be sleeping in the area. He claimed that he tried to wake him up but did not respond, prompting him to leave the Canadian national/
Hours later, he was found dead. He reportedly suffered from a cerebrovascular accident or stroke.
The same incident occurred in April of last year when the victim passed out inebriated on the concrete seawall.
The police have ordered an autopsy on the victim.
