A bus on the EDSA Carousel reportedly lost its brakes near Main Avenue, Quezon City, around 6:00 AM today, causing a chain collision involving another bus and a white SUV, RH Edniel Parrosa reported.
According to responding MMDA traffic aides, the bus driver veered the vehicle toward the center island upon realizing that the brakes were no longer functioning. The out-of-control bus first hit the center island before crashing into another bus and slamming into the SUV.
The front portion of the first bus, from the windshield to the headlights, was heavily damaged, while the rear of the second bus sustained significant dents. The SUV also suffered visible damage, and shattered glass from the vehicles littered the road.
Fortunately, authorities reported no serious injuries among passengers and drivers. However, the incident caused severe traffic congestion in the area, with vehicles at a standstill as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) awaited tow trucks to clear the damaged vehicles.
The traffic bureau has already removed the SUV from the scene, but the buses remain on-site, further contributing to the morning rush hour delays.
Passengers of the affected carousel bus disembarked and transferred to alternative transport as the MMDA worked to manage the situation.
