The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) imposed a ban on the use of all social media platforms inside the facilities of the agency.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. issued the social media ban days after announcing a no-cellphone policy intended 'to minimize potential distractions and protect the integrity of operations within correctional institutions'.

The agency said that the social media ban seeks to enhance security and maintain professionalism.

"To facilitate necessary communication, all personnel are permitted to use official BuCor emails, such as Gmail or Yahoo, thereby ensuring that essential correspondence can continue while upholding the institution's standards and security protocols," Catapang said on Thursday, November 21, in a news release.

Catapang also ordered the procurement of more two-way radios as an alternative mode of communications in BuCor facilities.

The BuCor chief warned that violators of the social media ban will face administrative sanctions.
