The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Wednesday said it is working to reverse duplicate transactions after customers report an unauthorized “0431 debit memo” they have received on their bank accounts.
"Some ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from December 30 to 31, 2022 were posted twice. We are already working to reverse the duplicate transactions.," the bank said in an advisory posted on their Facebook page.
"Rest assured that your account is safe and secure. Thank you."
The keyword "0431 debit memo" is the top trending topic on the social media platform Twitter.
In a now-viral Facebook post, user Joarra Galang Solis said she lost almost PHP 4,000 from her account while her friend lost at least PHP17,000 following the unauthorized transaction.
As of writing, the BPI app remains inaccessible.
