Severe tropical storm (STS) Bising intensified into typhoon Danas at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, after exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). However, the weather state bureau anticipates it may re-enter.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) advisory issued at 11 a.m., Danas now has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour from 110 km/h previously, and its gustiness now at 150 km/h from 135 km/h.
Danas was last detected 385 km west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes at 10 a.m., and heading north northeast towards PAR at a speed of 10 km/h.
The Babuyan Islands and Batanes are still experiencing scattered rain and thunderstorms from Bising’s trough or extension.
STS Bising left PAR at 12 nn on Friday, July 4, and began an arched course back towards PAR on Saturday. It is expected to stay on its curved path northeast in the next 36 hours.
It may return to PAR through the northwestern boundary on Sunday night or early Monday morning. However, it will leave immediately after passing over Taiwan, which is within PAR.
Moreover, Danas is expected to strengthen further within 24 hours, although it is forecast to weaken over the East China Sea and become a remnant low by Thursday, July 10, over China’s landmass.
