President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. affirmed on Friday that the government will continue to provide assistance to typhoon victims until they return to normal living conditions.
"Mga kababayan, hindi tayo titigil hangga't hindi pa nakakabangon ang lahat. Walang pagod ang ating mga ahensya. Naririnig namin ang inyong saklolo at ginagawa namin ang lahat upang mailagay kayo sa mas mabuting kalagayan," Marcos said in a video message.
"Sa isang bagong Pilipinas, lalo pa nating pagbubutihin ang ating pagtugon sa hamon ng climate change," he added.
To address the ongoing issue of changing weather patterns, Marcos reiterated that the government would work diligently to reduce the number of potential casualties from each disaster.
Furthermore, the government will also aim to reduce the number of people and families affected by each storm that strikes the country.
Finally, the government will prioritize protecting small communities and their livelihoods, which could be lost if affected by a storm.
He pointed out that some are reacting because he visits areas that are strongholds of his political opponents from the election.
He further stressed that storms do not acknowledge election outcomes, and wherever there are issues and a need for assistance, that is where he will go.
Marcos visited the Bicol region, which was severely affected by the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, leading to significant flooding in the area.
As stated in the latest report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the government and its partners have collectively provided P996.6 million in assistance to families hit by the storm.
