Davao City Acting Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte has responded to the acceptance of his boxing challenge by Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III—on one condition: that all elected officials undergo a hair follicle drug test.
In the latest episode of his podcast Basta Dabawenyo on Thursday, Duterte said he has long wanted to "beat up a monkey," and criticized Torre for using charity as a justification for the fight.
"Huwag ka mag-alala, Torre, kasi matagal ko na talaga gustong makabugbog ng unggoy. Kung gusto mo lang talaga ng suntukan, bakit kailangan mo pang charity-charity? Why do you need na gamitin pa yung nangyayare ngayon na baha dyan sa Metro Manila?," Duterte said.
"If you're really serious about this, kung gusto mo 'yung charity na 'yan and you laid some condition, and let me lay my own conditions... pakiusapan mo 'yang amo mo na presidente, let it come out of his mouth that all elected officials should undergo a hair follicle drug test. Papalagan ko 'yang charity-charity mo na 'yan," he added.
Duterte said that if his condition is met, he has no problem going through with the fight.
It can be recalled that Duterte first challenged Torre to a fistfight, claiming that the PNP chief is only brave because of his position.
"Matapang ka lang naman, you have the position. Pero kung suntukan tayo, alam ko kaya kita kung ganon lang. You are a coward. You are nothing without your position," Duterte said.
Gen. Torre accepted the challenge, saying it could be a way to raise funds for the victims of recent typhoon and flooding in Metro Manila. He even suggested the Araneta Coliseum as a possible venue for the charity boxing match.
On Thursday, Torre began training at the PNP Gym, with his boxing trainer praising his strength despite his age.
In a report by Edniel Parrosa, it was revealed that Torre used to box back when he was still a student at the PNP Academy.
Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson revealed that a casino CEO has also offered their ballroom as a venue for the match.
