A 42-year-old barangay official was killed, while his companion was injured after a suspected vintage bomb they were cutting exploded in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.
According to DZRH provincial reporter Grace Sansano, police investigations revealed that the two victims discovered the old bomb at a construction site where they were working.
Instead of reporting it to the authorities, they took it to a friend's house and attempted to cut it using a grinder, which caused an explosion that instantly killed the barangay official and injured his companion, who is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
Authorities have warned the public about the dangers of unexploded ordnance (UXO).
They urge anyone who discovers a suspicious object to report it immediately to the police or military to prevent similar tragedies.
