The Ateneo de Manila will accept female students in their all-boys basic education schools starting from school year 2029 to 2030.
In the memorandum signed by university president Fr. Roberto Yap, Ateneo's Board of Trustees has approved the full implementation of a co-education scheme.
This was under their strategic plan to increase the student population at the university.
"This is in response to our goal in the Lux-in-Domino Strategic Plan: Strategic targeted growth in the university’s student population to increase access to and impact of the Ateneo de Manila education; specifically the strategy to increase student diversity by granting female students access to the Ateneo de Manila basic education schools," written in the memo.
Its preparatory year will be in S.Y. 2023 to 2024 as admission for co-education will start in S.Y. 2024-2025 for Kinder, Grade 1, and Grade 7 levels.
"The Vice President for Basic Education has been tasked to put together the communication plan, facilities and infrastructure requirements, as well as the academic, formation and capability development aspects of the co-ed scheme," he added.
The university was founded in 1859 as an exclusive school for boys during the Spanish occupation.
Meanwhile, ADMU started accepting female students in 2016 as the first batch of the K-to-12 programs.
