Filipina para swimmer Angel Otom made a historic Paralympics debut with a 6th place finish in the 50m backstroke - S5 final at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
The Filipina swimmer recorded a time of 44 seconds, securing the 6th place among 8 finalists.
China dominated the podium with three finishes. Lu Dong, the Tokyo Paralympics champion, took gold with a time of 37.51 seconds. He Shenggao won silver with 39.93 seconds, and Liu Yu finished with bronze at 42.37 seconds.
Before reaching the finals, the 21-year-old Paralympian Otom advanced from the heats with a time of 44.03 seconds.
The seven-time ASEAN Para Games gold medalist will return to action on Friday, aiming to secure a medal for the Philippines in the women’s 50m butterfly – S5.
