Alex Eala made history on Saturday, September 10, by becoming the first Filipino to a junior Grand Slam singles title.

The 17-year old Filipina tennis player defeated Lucie Havlickova of Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-4, during the finals of the 2022 US Open Junior singles tournament in New York.

"Speechless. I am so grateful. 2022 Girls US Open Champion," Eala said in a Facebook post after winning the title.

Eala sealed a spot in the title match after defeating Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko in the semifinals, and Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals.
