The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported two minor phreatic eruptions from the Taal Volcano from Saturday to Sunday morning.
According to its 24-hour observation at midnight, the Taak volcano remains in a state of low-level unrest and has maintained Alert Level 1.
The minor phreatic eruption on Sunday, February 16, occurred from 8:20 AM to 8:24 AM. Phivolcs said the event generated a 900-meter plume that drifted towards the general west and lasted for three minutes and 27 seconds.
Meanwhile, three volcanic tremors occurred and lasted for four to 12 minutes.
The Phivolcs noted this is the second minor phreatic eruption since yesterday, February 15.
The institution reminded the public that entry into the Taal Volcano Island’s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), especially its main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, and occupancy and boating on the lake are prohibited.
According to Phivolcs, hazards such as steam-driven phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas may occur.
