A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck the town of Looc, Occidental Mindoro early Saturday morning, August 17, at around 4:35 a.m.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the tremor was tectonic in origin with a depth of 102 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS recorded Intensity II in the following areas:
- Abra de Ilog and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro
- Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
Meanwhile, Intensity I was felt in:
- Cuenca, Batangas City, Santa Teresita, and Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas
- Bacoor City and Carmona, Cavite
- Sablayan, Oriental Mindoro

Authorities assured the public that no aftershocks or damage are expected from the earthquake.
