The students from Adamson University have urged the university's administration to be transparent with the truth and hold those accountable for the death of their schoolmate, John Matthew Salilig.

The third-year Chemical Engineering student was found dead in Imus City, Cavite, with bruise marks from alleged fraternity hazing.

In a unity statement published on Wednesday, the Adamson University Student Government, along with Adamson Chronicle, and other student organizations and councils, called for "bolder steps towards the search for the truth."

"As a collective catalyst for change, security, and unity, we stand in solidarity with the family of the bereaved," it read.

"We strongly urge the people involved to speak nothing but the truth about the incident. To speak ambiguously of his case only protects the offenders behind this heinous crime," it added.

The students also asked for tightened security on the university premises and protection of their welfare by verifying groups and organizations to be associated with Adamson University.

They also called for a more comprehensive statement to "prevent the spread of false rumors and disinformation."

"The center of brotherhood and sisterhood in existing fraternities and sororities does not have to revolve around the use of violence," they said in the statement, condemning the use of harm and abuse during the recruitment process.

A witness previously revealed that the 24-year-old student was beaten at least 70 times during the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi (Triskelion) fraternity in Biñan, Laguna last February 18.

Charges have already been filed against the six suspects who were linked to Salilig's death with eight more suspects still at large.
