The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed a special task force that will ensure peace and security on the day that President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. will deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA), its chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. said on Tuesday.
"We are prepared for this. In line with that, we created 'yung task force SONA," he said during an interview during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
Acorda said National Captial Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Edgar Alan will serve as the task group's commander.
He assured that they will closely monitor the events that will transpire during the SONA day and provide support to the NCRPO when needed.
According to the PNP Chief, they have yet to receive an intelligence report regarding any threats against the President.
"But gaya ng palagi naming ginagawa ay expect for the worst and hope for the best," he added.
Acorda said they will implement a "maximum tolerance" for progressive groups that will conduct their simultaneous protest.
"We will see to it na kung ano ang karapatan ng mga mamayan, kung ano ang dapat ipahayag. We will give them air kung ano ang dapat ipahayag nila. But we will make it sure also na hindi maantala ang karapatan ng ibang tao," he added.
The second SONA of the President is slated on July 28.
Earlier, Marcos said that his state address will center on the accomplishments of his administration over the past year as well as the future plans and ongoing endeavors under his leadership.
