The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) declared the province of Abra in the Cordillera Administration as the hardest hit by the magnitude 7 earthquake that rocked Luzon on Wednesday, July 27.
Usec. Ricardo Jalad, the administrator of OCD, said that most of the damage reports that the agency receives come from Abra.
"May mga report ng ibang insidente diyan sa ibang probinsya, pero karamihan sa Abra," said Jalad, who also serves as the executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, on Thursday, July 28, during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
Jalad mentioned that the OCD also received reports of damages from Ilocos Sur but not as many as those from Abra.
"Sabi sa atin ng regional director diyan ay hindi naman gaano diyan sa Ilocos Sur. May report lang of damages in Vigan but hindi naman gaano compared to Abra," Jalad explained
Jalad said that OCD still continues to gather information regarding the extent of the damage left by the magnitude 7 earthquake in various regions.
On Thursday, Abra Gov. Dominic Valera approved a resolution that places the province under a state of calamity and authorizes the use of more than 50 percent of the calamity reserve fund.
