Following the 8.7-magnitude earthquake in Russia on Wednesday, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said that no Filipino workers abroad were 'adversely affected'.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac told reporters that they are closely monitoring the situation of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who may have been affected by the natural disaster.
In a report from RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, Cacdac assured the public that they are in constant communication with migrant workers and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), working to ensure the safety and welfare of OFWs despite the intensity of the earthquake.
“So far, wala pang adversely affected. All of us anyway yung surrounding the pacific ocean that might be affected also. So we are in close touch with our MW and DFA. So we’re hoping and praying,” Cacdac said.
In a related update, the nine sailors reportedly being held by the Houthis in Yemen have been allowed to communicate with their families via phone calls. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is actively coordinating with the appropriate agencies to facilitate their release.
