Over 7,000 people have packed ports everywhere in the country, stranded by weather disturbances driven by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, reported the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday.

As of October 25, 6 AM, 7,520 individuals were counted across different ports.

Some of these people have caught colds from the chilly weather, compelling the ports authority to call on the local government units (LGU), the Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of Social Services and Welfare (DSWD) to provide assistance.

PPA personnel’s families, particularly those from the Bicol Region, were also brought to the ports, which have become something of an evacuation center.

The port authority is awaiting a green light for sea travel from the Coast Guard, especially in areas where the storm has passed like in Southern Visayas and in Northern Mindanao.

They are also monitoring the tropical depression reportedly approaching the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
