It is estimated that 1.2 million passengers will flock to the ports for this year's Holy Week, or Semana Santa, according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).
The estimated number was made following the 180,000 travelers flocked at the ports last Friday, March 22.
Interviewed in Dos Por Dos on Monday, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said around 300,000 Filipinos are expected to travel on Monday, March 25.
Meanwhile, 250,000–270,000 passengers are expected to flock the next day, March 26.
Santiago noted that the biggest numbers are expected in the areas of Iloilo, going to Guimaras, which has the biggest traffic volume, following Batangas.
Batangas, which is now the biggest passenger terminal in the country, has trips to Mindoro, Calapan, Puerto Galera, and Romblon.
"'Yong port na previously, although expanded na dati ng 2,500 person capacity, bagamat di pa inagurahan, pinabuksan na para magamit ng mga kababayan," Santiago said.
"Nasa 8,000 passenger capacity na 'yan. Ito na ang pinakamalaki at pinakamoderno nating passenger terminal sa buong Pilipinas," he added.
According to Santiago, the trip from Iloilo to Guimaras will have fast turn-overs due to its short time of travel, as will the trip from Cebu to Bohol.
