Two police officers were tragically killed after getting shot by riding-in-tandem in front of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in the town of Oas, Albay, around 11 PM on Sunday, July 9.
The two officers were identified as Police Chief Master Sergeant Joseph Ostonal and Police Corporal Jeffrey Refereza, both from the Oas Municipal Police Station.
According to initial investigations by authorities, the officers were conducting patrol in a patrol car when they were suddenly shot by the riding-in-tandem assailants who immediately fled the scene.
Both officers sustained gunshot wounds to the head, resulting in their untimely deaths.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) promptly initiated a hot pursuit operation, and caught the riding-in-tandem suspects who were identified as Richard Bonaobra, 35, and Fernan Regala Jardinel, a retired army personnel.
The arrest took place in the town of Polangui, after an exchange of gunfire and a chase with authorities.
As of this writing, the two suspects are in custody while the PNP continues its investigation into the crime.
