Honoring the 12th president of the Philippines, Fidel V. Ramos, the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) on Saturday launched the first online presidential library, which coincided with his supposed 95th birthday.
The FVR Presidential Library documents FVR's life and leadership as a soldier and statesman and serves as the primary repository for the vast body of works and significant materials generated during his public life.
Also, the contents intend to assist students and scholars in their work, inspire future generations of Filipinos around the world, and contribute to the living chronicles of the international community.
More than 16,000 videotapes, over 10,000 documents contained in 100 steel filing cabinets, and over 21,000 presidential photos were converted into digital format in three stages, while the vast collection of books and memorials was cataloged and separated for donation to a select group of public schools, foundations, and project partners.
Ramos, a 1950 graduate of the United States West Point military academy, demonstrated his bravery in combat when, as a young 2nd lieutenant of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK) during the Korean War, he led his men in the capture of Eerie Hill, a heavily fortified camp occupied by Chinese forces, after close quarter fighting.
Moreover, he volunteered as a member of the Philippine Civic Action Group during the Vietnam War, helping Vietnamese civilians displaced by the war.
Being the president from 1992 to 1998, FVR was known for his hands-on service.
He died on July 31, 2022.
Meanwhile, the FVR Online Presidential Library can be found at https://www.fvrlegacy.org, and the FVR Legacy channel on YouTube features FVR Oral History interviews and presidential speeches.
