American singer and Raspberries rontman Eric Carmen, best known for his hit song "All By Myself," has passed away at the age of 74.
His demise was announced by his wife Amy in the late singer's website on Tuesday, March 12.
"It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen. Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend," her statement read.
"It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy."
Amy then asked for the public to respect the family's privacy as they mourn the "enormous loss".
She ended with lyrics from a song from his 1977 album Boats Against The Current: "Love Is All That Matters…Faithful and Forever".
Formed in 1970, Carmen was a founding member of the band "The Raspberries" and went on to release hit songs Go All the Way and I Wanna Be With You.
He started his solo career when the band broke up in 1975 and went on to release All By Myself which sold over 1 million copies and Never Gonna Fall In Love Again which peaked at 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
