House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Sunday said Senate President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri has assured him that he would keep an "open mind" on the proposed amendment in the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.
In a statement, Romualdez said Zubiri gave the assurance during their one on one meeting.
"He informed me that the Senate is awaiting for the report of their Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes chaired by Sen. Robinhood Padilla, for appropriate plenary actions," the House Speaker said.
Romualdez said he trusts that Zubiri and other Senators will keep "their mind open on amending restrictive economic provisions of the Constitution."
Zubiri earlier said cha-cha is not included in the priority bills of the Senate.
Last week, lawmakers in the lower chamber approved on third and final reading of the resolution which calls for a hybrid constitutional convention (con-con) on charter change (cha-cha).
Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 6 was passed with 301 affirmative votes, seven negative votes, and no abstentions.
The Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments is set to hold a hearing on the House's version on cha-cha today.
