Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez retained his Speakership position for the 20th Congress, after a majority vote from the House of Representatives.
On Monday, July 28, RH Milky Rigonan reported that the majority of the 219 House members present voted in favor of Romualdez to retain his Speakership position. Quezon Rep. David “Jay-jay” Suarez was the first to nominate Romualdez for the speakership race.
Ilocos 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos seconded the nomination, which was later followed by several political party leaders.
Although the majority of the House members voted in favor of Romualdez, some representatives abstained.
Meanwhile, Rigonan also reported that as the voting was ongoing, Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte walked out of the plenary. The reporter on-site tried to get an interview, but said that Duterte had decided to refuse.
