The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said that it would reduce allocations for water concessionaires supplying Metro Manila as part of the government measures to conserve water for the upcoming El Niño period.
According to Dr. Sevillio David Jr., Executive Director of NWRB, water supply will drop from 52 cubic meters per second (CMS) to 50 CMS starting Saturday, July 1.
The board said they will also lessen the allocation for irrigation from 30 CMS to 28.5 CMS.
"There is still the looming effect of El Niño. We have to manage the water supply; we need to prepare," the NWRB said.
Meanwhile, the water level of Angat Dam became lower due to the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
El Niño is a climate pattern that occurs when sea surface temperatures (SST) over the Central and Eastern Pacific Oceans warm up and affect air and sea currents.
