Netflix announced on Friday, Dec. 17, its new anime project “THE ONE PIECE” remake to celebrate the iconic story’s 25th anniversary.

In its caption, the streaming platform noted that the remake would be produced by WIT Studio, which has worked on many hit anime series including "SPY x FAMILY" and "Attack on Titan."

“‘THE ONE PIECE’ anime will recreate the story of the original ‘ONE PIECE’ manga, starting from the East Blue arc,” it added.

According to a Game Rant report, the remake would not be “redundant” considering its current TV anime adaptation through Toei Animation and called it a “bigger need.”

“[T]he pacing of the anime is still incredibly frustrating and, at the same time, the number of episodes that the anime has is, of course, going to be problematic for newer fans to get into the series,” the writer, Rei Penber, said.

The “One Piece” anime runs once a week, but fans have noted that each episode takes a long time, adapting only a few pages into a single episode takes more time for the audience to watch.

“If ‘The One Piece’ remake manages to fix the pacing of the series, fans can look at much more concise arcs, which also won't take away anything from the story, and the series will likely reduce the size of the story by hundreds of episodes,” Penber added.
