Amid reports of road rage and traffic altercations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday reiterated the need for discipline among drivers to help maintain order and ensure safety on roads nationwide.
In his latest vlog, President Marcos took note of the series of road incidents reported in the past week, with a particular emphasis on cases of road rage.
He further detailed the incidents as involving street altercations marked by shouting, aggressive confrontations, finger-pointing, and intimidation with threats—some of which ended in gun violence and fatalities.
The President went on to question the apparent normalization of road violence, questioning the kind of culture that is being cultivated, including the aggressive behavior presented by drivers.
"Tayong lahat ay kailangang sumunod sa batas trapiko. Kailangan ang disiplina para maging responsableng Pilipino sa mga lansangan," said Marcos.
“’Wag maging kamote. Masyado nang madami ‘yan,” he added.
He then reiterated that holding a driver’s license is a privilege, not a right, and reminded the public that responsible driving requires not only skill, but also proper attitude and patience.
Marcos urged the public to take an active role in promoting peace by intervening in road rage situations instead of taking videos of them, saying we all share the responsibility of ensuring a safe and peaceful environment.
"Ang bagong Pilipino ay disiplinado sa lansangan, maingat sa pananalita, nagtitimpi, at pinipili ang kapayapaan," Marcos explained.
"Ang lahat ay napag-uusapan ng maayos at malumanay, Lugi tayo at ang mga pamilya natin sa mga posibleng dala nitong kapalit kung hahayaan nating lamunin tayo ng galit, kahit isang saglit lamang," he added.
The President noted that he understands how traffic can be infuriating and that people sometimes get caught up on the road with drivers who violate traffic laws.
He encouraged people to choose patience over confrontation, to let minor offenses go, and to not escalate tensions on the road.
A recent viral video showed a road rage incident on a highway in Antipolo that ended in a fatal shooting. The suspect has been charged with murder and two counts of frustrated murder.
